Scapa Skiren Orkney Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Scapa Skiren Orkney Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Scapa Skiren is the flagship expression from the Scapa distillery on the windswept isle of Orkney, Scotland's most northerly whisky-producing region. "Skiren" takes its name from the Old Norse for the glittering, dancing light that plays on the sea on a calm summer's day – a fitting tribute to the coastal setting that shapes this whisky's character. Unlike most of Scapa's output, which is aged in ex-bourbon casks, Skiren is matured exclusively in first-fill American oak casks, giving it a distinctly rich, golden colour and a smooth, approachable style.
On the nose, expect runny honey and fresh cream alongside hints of ripe apple and a delicate touch of aniseed. The palate continues that honeyed warmth, with juicy pear and lemon peel sparking against a backdrop of gentle spice as the oak develops. The finish is medium in length and softly sweet, with a lingering, gentle oakiness. It is a non-age-statement single malt, bottled at 40% ABV, and is best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to open up its coastal, creamy character.
