Named after the spectacular waterfall a short walk from the distillery, Aber Falls is the first whisky distillery to open in North Wales in over a century. Based in Abergwyngregyn near Bangor, it uses Welsh malted barley and water drawn from the surrounding hills to produce a distinctly Welsh single malt, matured in a mix of American oak bourbon, virgin oak and Spanish sherry casks.
The nose offers vanilla and toffee alongside candied citrus, fig and sultana, with a gentle hint of clove. On the palate, sweet sherry notes mingle with dried fruit, forest fruits, creamy malt, nuts, dark chocolate and espresso, before a long, lingering dried-fruit finish with a subtle touch of spice.
Aber Falls Distillery opened in 2017 as part of a wider revival of Welsh whisky-making, and this rich, full-bodied single malt was its flagship release. Bottled at 40% ABV, it offers an accessible, approachable route into Welsh whisky for newcomers and collectors alike.
