Named after the Mull of Oa peninsula on Islay's south coast, An Oa was introduced in 2017 as the first new addition to Ardbeg's core range in over a decade. It represents a more approachable, rounded side of Ardbeg, marrying whisky matured in Pedro Ximenez, charred virgin oak and ex-bourbon casks together in the distillery's 'Gathering Vat' before bottling at 46.6% ABV, non-chill filtered.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Sweet and creamy with butterscotch, fennel seed, tobacco leaf and honeyed cereal notes, with a subtle citrus lift of flourless orange cake.
Palate: Peaty character balanced with cigars, golden syrup flapjacks, sweet black tea and hints of chocolate limes.
Finish: Smoky treacle lingers with a little peanut brittle.
