Balcones Distilling put Texas whiskey on the map, and this Texas Single Malt is where the story started. Distilled in Waco using Texas-grown malted barley and matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks, it's a whiskey shaped as much by the punishing Texas heat as by the still house — that climate drives rapid, intense interaction between spirit and wood.
The nose opens with freshly baked banana bread, honey and vanilla, with a faint whisper of cedar and roasted chestnut. On the palate, ripe orchard fruit and apple esters give way to brown sugar turning to molasses, before a warm, spiced, distinctly non-malty finish rounds things off.
Founded in 2008, Balcones was one of the pioneers of the modern American single malt category, proving that world-class malt whiskey didn't need to come from Scotland or Japan. Bottled at a robust 53% ABV, this expression remains the clearest showcase of the distillery's bold, Texas-grown character.
