About the brand

The Biggar Gin Co. was founded by brothers Euan and Stuart McVicar. The idea began during a family holiday on Arran in 2016, and the company is based around the market town of Biggar in South Lanarkshire, at the foot of the Tinto Hills. The brothers work to what they call the “Biggar mentality”, a small-scale approach to making gin in rare, limited batches.

How it’s made

Biggar Herbaceous Gin is made at the company’s South Lanarkshire distillery in small batches of no more than 140 bottles at a time. Its recipe is led by herbaceous ingredients, including lemon verbena and sage, which give the gin a leafier and earthier character than the producer’s original Biggar Gin. Each bottle carries its own batch and bottle number on the label.

How to enjoy it

The makers recommend serving Biggar Herbaceous Gin with a premium tonic and plenty of ice, which lets the herbal character come through clearly. A fresh sprig of sage or a twist of lemon peel makes a natural garnish, and the gin also suits a Gimlet or a Tom Collins, where its green, savoury side adds interest to a simple sour.
