Brass Neck Premium Scottish Spiced Rum, 70cl

Brass Neck Premium Scottish Spiced Rum is a spiced rum with a distinctly Scottish twist, blending tonka bean, cacao nibs and orange peel with Scottish botanicals such as nettles and milk thistle. It is not the usual sweet, vanilla-heavy spiced rum: the botanicals give it a herbal, earthy depth alongside creamy coconut and caramel, and a fox features on the label.

About the brand

Brass Neck was founded by friends Freddy Drucquer, Dougie Jeffries and Chris Dowdall, who set out to make a distinctly Scottish rum. After around two years of development the first rum launched in December 2020, distilled, bottled and distributed in Scotland rather than being imported from the Caribbean.

How it’s made

The rum is made at Strathearn Distillery in Perthshire. Its flavour comes from a recipe that combines tonka beans, cacao nibs and orange peel with Scottish nettles and milk thistle.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Creamy coconut and vanilla essence, with a sweet hint of tonka bean.
• Palate: Sweet tonka bean and burnt caramel, with candied oranges coming through.
• Finish: Subtle, earthy, herbal spice.

How to enjoy it

Brass Neck Premium Scottish Spiced Rum can be sipped neat or over ice, and it also mixes well. Try it with ginger beer and a squeeze of lime, in a Dark and Stormy style long drink, or stirred into an Old Fashioned for a spicier twist. Serve in a tumbler or rocks glass with a slice of orange.
