Bushmills Black Bush is a rich, sherry-driven blended Irish whiskey from the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, home to the world's oldest whiskey distilling licence, granted in 1608. Unlike the brand's lighter Original blend, Black Bush uses an unusually high proportion of single malt whiskey, matured predominantly in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, married with a smaller measure of lighter grain whiskey aged in ex-bourbon barrels.
On the nose, expect intense sherry sweetness alongside autumnal orchard fruit — apple, pear and dried sultana — with a touch of marmalade and toasted almond. The palate is soft and silky, delivering baked apple, caramel, praline and warming cinnamon spice over a creamy, malty backbone, with a finish of sweet orchard fruit fading into gentle oak, walnut bitterness and a final savoury dryness.
Equally at home neat, over ice, or as the backbone of a Hot Toddy or Whiskey Sour.
