Caol Ila 12 Year Old is the flagship expression from the largest distillery on Islay, tucked into a remote cove near Port Askaig on the Sound of Islay. Despite its size, Caol Ila's malt has long been a well-kept secret, prized by blenders and single malt devotees alike for its distinctively lighter, more refined take on Islay peat.

On the nose, expect a gentle wave of bonfire smoke intertwined with bright citrus and a subtle maritime freshness. The palate delivers warm, earthy peat and ash balanced by zesty lemon and a touch of sweetness, with a faint medicinal note characteristic of the region. The finish is long, smoky and gently drying, leaving lingering embers of peat smoke.

Bottled at 43% ABV in the classic 70cl format, this is an excellent introduction to Islay whisky for those who want the smoke without the intensity of some of its bolder island neighbours.
