Clément Select Barrel Rhum Vieux Agricole, 70cl

Clément Select Barrel is a Martinique rhum vieux agricole bottled at 40% ABV. Made from fresh sugar cane juice rather than molasses and aged in oak, this Rhum Vieux Agricole is selected for its smooth character and balanced sweetness. Old gold in colour, it is an approachable introduction to aged agricole rum, with a gentle oak influence that sits comfortably alongside the grassy, cane-led style.

About the distillery

Clément was founded in 1887, when Homère Clément bought the Domaine de l’Acajou on Martinique. Today the rhum is made at the Habitation Clément in Le François, and it is produced under the Martinique AOC, which sets strict rules for how agricole rum is made. The estate remains one of the best-known names in rhum agricole.

How it’s made

The base is fresh sugar cane juice, fermented and distilled in a traditional column still. Select Barrel is a blend of agricole rums matured in oak barrels chosen by the cellar master for their qualities, with the aim of soft vanilla notes and a smooth finish.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Sweet and inviting, with cut sugar cane, ripe banana, grassy notes and a fresh, minty woodiness.
• Palate: Round at first, then drier, with natural sweetness, pepper, liquorice and soft vanilla.
• Finish: Oaky and gently dry, with liquorice lingering.

How to enjoy it

Clément Select Barrel is good served neat at room temperature, or with a little ice to open up the sweetness. It also works in an Old Fashioned, where the oak adds depth to the cane character, and pairs well with dark chocolate.
