Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand, 75cl
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is the wine that famously put New Zealand on the world wine map. Grown in Marlborough at the top of the South Island, it is a vibrant, mouthwatering white with ripe citrus, kaffir lime, passion fruit and white peach, made with care to add texture and complexity while keeping the bright, juicy fruit that defines Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
About the winery
In 1983 David Hohnen tasted his first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and was captivated by its intensity. With winemaker Kevin Judd he launched Cloudy Bay in 1985 to international acclaim. The winery keeps yields around 30% below the regional average and is a founding member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.
How it’s made
For the 2024 release the free-run juice was cold settled and fermented mainly in stainless steel, with around 1.5% of the blend fermented at warmer temperatures in large oak vats and a portion fermented with wild yeast to build texture. The blend is selected strictly: in 2024, 55 of 81 portions tasted made the final wine.
