Cockburn’s Fine Tawny Port, 75cl
Cockburn’s Fine Tawny Port, 75cl
Cockburn’s Fine Tawny Port is an easy-drinking tawny from the Douro, blended from young wines and matured in oak so that the fresh fruit of youth is joined by a gentle nutty character. Lighter in colour than a ruby port, this Cockburn’s Fine Tawny is bottled ready to drink and has a caramel and toffee sweetness that makes it approachable and versatile.
About the producer
Cockburn’s was founded in 1815 by the Scottish brothers Robert and John Cockburn, who were guided by the belief that the quality of the wine is the first thing to be looked to. The brand has questioned the so-called rules of port making ever since and is part of Symington Family Estates. The Fine Tawny is made by winemakers Charles Symington, Nuno Moreira and Manuel Rocha.
How it’s made
Young, vibrant wines are blended and matured for up to three years in seasoned oak casks before bottling. This short time in wood gives the port a lighter, reddish tawny colour than a ruby style, while keeping its fruitiness and adding nutty notes. The result is a wine that is ready to enjoy as soon as it is opened.
Tasting notes
- Nose: Bright, fruity aromas with ripe fruit.
- Palate: Mellow notes of nuts and toffee, with a smooth, silky feel.
- Finish: Soft and gently sweet, finishing on toffee and nut.
How to enjoy it
Serve Cockburn’s Fine Tawny Port lightly chilled in a reasonably sized port glass or a white wine glass. It pairs well with rich, creamy desserts, dried fruit and salted nuts, and the house also promotes the Port and Tonic serve. Once opened, it is best enjoyed within four to six weeks.
