Crow's Nest Caribbean Rum, 70cl

Crow’s Nest Caribbean Rum is a blended Caribbean rum bottled at 40% ABV, made from aged rums from Jamaica, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Trinidad. The blend is double matured and finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry butts and bourbon barrels, which gives a rounded, fruit-led and gently spiced profile that suits sipping neat or over ice.

About the brand

Crow’s Nest is part of the Angus Dundee Distillers portfolio. Angus Dundee was founded in London in 1950 by Terry Hillman as a Scotch whisky blending company and remains privately owned. Today it owns the Glencadam and Tomintoul distilleries in Scotland, along with a bottling plant at Coatbridge, and supplies spirits to markets around the world.

How it’s made

The rum is a blend of aged rums from Jamaica, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Trinidad. After blending, it is double matured and finished in two types of cask: ex-bourbon barrels and Pedro Ximénez sherry butts. These add sweetness, dried fruit and spice to the underlying Caribbean character.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Vanilla pod, marzipan and cocoa powder, with sweet spices and golden raisins.
• Palate: Sweet and rich, with toffee, muscovado sugar, dates and prunes, followed by toasted walnuts, nutmeg and stem ginger.
• Finish: Warming and long, with maple syrup, fruitcake, cloves and sandalwood.

How to enjoy it

Crow’s Nest suits sipping neat or over ice, where the sherry-cask fruit and spice come through clearly. A splash of water can open it up further. It also makes a sound base for rum cocktails and long drinks with ginger beer or cola.
