Crusty Juggler Black Strap Pineapple Rum, 70cl

Crusty Juggler Black Strap Pineapple Rum is a Cornish flavoured rum made by macerating whole fresh pineapples with demerara sugar and blending the result with aged Caribbean rum and black strap molasses. Bottled at 37.5% ABV and sealed with hand-applied wax, it is a development of the brand’s Black Spiced Rum, and it keeps the molasses depth and fudgy richness of a proper rum while the pineapple adds a bright, tropical lift.

About the brand

Crusty Juggler Rum was launched in 2021 by brothers Tom and Sam Hanson, whose family roots go back to a St Ives grocery opened in 1894 by their great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Johns. Their rums are blended, barrelled and bottled in Cornwall, using fresh fruit and whole spices, with no artificial colours, flavours or additives.

How it’s made

Whole pineapples, skins included, are macerated with demerara sugar for three to four days. The pineapple-infused mixture is then blended with a three to five year old Caribbean rum from Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica, together with black strap molasses. Each bottle is labelled and waxed by hand. It won a Silver medal at the World Rum Awards 2024.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Fresh pineapple and creamy fudge, with stone fruits such as peach and mango, a hint of banana and treacly molasses.
• Palate: Full and lush, with a rich texture and earthy dark fruit from the molasses, then fudge, vanilla and oak before the pineapple arrives.
• Finish: Vanilla and oak, rounded off by a wave of fresh, tropical pineapple.

How to enjoy it

Crusty Juggler Black Strap Pineapple Rum is good sipped neat or over ice. It also works well with ginger beer or lime and soda for a long drink, and it suits tropical cocktails such as a Piña Colada, Mojito or Daiquiri.
