Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition is a small-batch, overproof blended Scotch whisky bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof). It salutes Captain William ‘Bill’ McCoy, who smuggled Cutty Sark into America during 1920s Prohibition and whose reputation for unadulterated liquor gave rise to the phrase ‘the real McCoy’. Rich and robust, with honey, toffee and pepper, it is a whisky for sipping and for cocktails alike.

About the brand

Cutty Sark was created in 1923 by the London wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd and named after the famous clipper ship, the fastest of her day. Blended to be light and mixable, it became the best-selling Scotch in the United States in the 1960s. Edrington acquired the brand in 2010 and launched Prohibition in 2013; it is now owned by La Martiniquaise-Bardinet.

How it’s made

Prohibition is a small-batch blend of single malt and grain whiskies, matured in American oak casks that bring vanilla and spice. It is bottled at a full 50% ABV for extra depth and presented in a dark, opaque bottle with a cork stopper, a nod to the whisky bottles of the Prohibition era.
