Glenmorangie Triple Cask Reserve Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl

Glenmorangie Triple Cask Reserve is a rich, subtly spiced Highland single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenmorangie distillery in Tain. Added to the core range in 2024, it marries three cask types – bourbon barrels, new charred oak and rye whiskey casks, the last rarely used in Scotch whisky. The result balances Glenmorangie’s classic fruity sweetness with a savoury, spicy edge, bringing notes of pear, candied orange, honeysuckle and clove.

About the distillery

Glenmorangie was founded in 1843 by William Matheson and his wife Anne at Tain in Ross-shire. Its name is Gaelic for ‘Valley of Tranquility’, and the distillery is known for the tallest stills in Scotland, at 5.14 metres, which give its spirit a light, delicate character. Triple Cask Reserve was created under Master Blender Gillian Macdonald.

How it’s made

The whisky is matured in three types of cask. Bourbon casks bring fruity smoothness, new charred oak adds fuller, richer notes, and rye whiskey casks contribute savoury spice, with hints of clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. The three are then married together to create what the distillery describes as a deeply harmonious whisky.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Rich and vibrant, with pear, vanilla, candied orange peel, honeysuckle and grapefruit.
• Palate: Creamy, with crème brûlée, cherry chocolate and soft toffee, followed by orange sherbet, clove and a touch of sweet chilli.
• Finish: Sweet and spicy, with marzipan and maple.

How to enjoy it

Enjoy Glenmorangie Triple Cask Reserve neat or with a splash of water, which brings out creamy vanilla and white chocolate. Its spice makes it a good choice for an Old Fashioned or a Highball with ginger ale, and it pairs nicely with a cheeseboard, ginger cake or dark chocolate.
