Glenmorangie X Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl

Glenmorangie X is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky created specifically for mixing. Crafted with input from top bartenders under the eye of Dr Bill Lumsden, it is a light, fruity, honeyed malt that turns a simple long drink into something special. Pair it with elderflower cordial, sparkling apple juice, ginger beer, tonic water or cola, and it holds its own in classic whisky cocktails too.

About the distillery

Glenmorangie was founded in 1843 by William Matheson and his wife Anne at Tain in Ross-shire, in the northern Highlands. Its name means ‘Valley of Tranquility’ in Gaelic. The distillery is famous for having the tallest stills in Scotland, at 5.14 metres, which help produce its delicate, fruity spirit, and for the cask innovation of Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden.

How it’s made

X by Glenmorangie is matured in ex-bourbon barrels, with some of the whisky finished for a short time in charred virgin oak casks. The result is a sweet, approachable malt with notes of pear, vanilla, orange and fudge that stand up well to a mixer. It carries no age statement and is bottled at 40% ABV.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Honeyed malt with lemon and apple, and a touch of nutmeg bringing oaky warmth.
• Palate: Vanilla and apricot, with more apple and a hint of flaked almond.
• Finish: Honeyed orchard fruit continues, with a pinch of peppercorn.

How to enjoy it

Glenmorangie X is at its best in a tall glass over plenty of ice. Top it with ginger beer and a wedge of lime, or with soda and a slice of orange; sparkling apple juice or elderflower cordial make a lighter, summery serve. It also works well in a Whisky Sour or a Highball.
