Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port, 75cl
Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port, 75cl
Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port is the signature reserve ruby Port from Graham’s, made in the Douro Valley. Dark red and full of ripe fruit, it is aged for a shorter time than many reserve rubies, which keeps its youthful blackberry character. It is bottled ready to drink and needs no decanting, making it an easy and versatile choice for the end of a meal.
About the producer
Graham’s was founded in 1820 by William and John Graham and has been owned by the Symington family since 1970. Its lodge is in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the grapes come from its own Douro quintas. The Six Grapes name comes from the 19th-century practice of marking the best barrels with grape symbols.
How it’s made
Six Grapes is made mainly from Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Each variety is fermented separately, then the wines move to the lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, where they usually age for one to two years in seasoned barrels or vats. Winemaker Charles Symington matches the blend closely to the previous year’s.
Tasting notes
- Nose: A rich perfume of ripe plums and cherries, with blackberry and cassis fruit.
- Palate: Complex and well structured, with layers of dark fruit and hints of liquorice.
- Finish: Long.
How to enjoy it
Serve Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port slightly chilled, at around 12–16°C. It is a good partner for dark chocolate desserts and mature cheeses, and it is comfortable on its own at the end of a meal. Store the bottle upright and, once opened, drink it within six to eight weeks.
