Haig Club Clubman Single Grain Scotch Whisky, 70cl

Haig Club Clubman is a light, easy-going single grain Scotch whisky distilled at Cameronbridge and matured exclusively in American oak casks that previously held bourbon. Released in 2016 as a more traditionally styled companion to the original Haig Club, it is sweet and woody, with vanilla fudge, butterscotch and coconut, and it was designed to be just as happy in a long drink as in a glass on its own.

About the brand

The Haig name is one of the oldest in Scotch whisky: the first record of a Haig making whisky dates from 1655. In 1824 John Haig founded the Cameronbridge grain distillery in Fife, where he later installed early patent stills. Today Cameronbridge is the largest grain distillery in Scotland, and Haig Club was launched by Diageo in 2014 in partnership with David Beckham and Simon Fuller.

How it’s made

Clubman is a single grain whisky, meaning it comes from a single distillery, Cameronbridge, where it is produced in column stills. It is matured only in ex-bourbon American oak casks, which give the whisky its sweet vanilla and coconut character and a gentle, dry woodiness.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Vanilla fudge, butterscotch and toffee, with light white pepper and a hint of toasted coconut.
• Palate: Fuller than you might expect, with vanilla, butterscotch and desiccated coconut balanced by dry, lightly spiced oak.
• Finish: Dry and gently spicy, with oak, butterscotch and toffee.

How to enjoy it

Haig Club Clubman works neat or over ice, but it really comes into its own mixed. Try it in a tall glass with cola or soda and plenty of ice, or stir it into an Old Fashioned. Its soft sweetness makes it an approachable introduction to grain whisky for newcomers and a relaxed everyday dram for regular whisky drinkers.
