Jameson 18 Year Old Irish Whiskey, 70cl

Jameson 18 Year Old is the pinnacle of the Jameson range, a triple distilled Irish whiskey bottled at 46% ABV and left non-chill filtered. It is a blend of pot still and grain whiskeys matured for the best part of two decades, then given a final spell in fresh bourbon wood. The result is a mellow, layered Irish whiskey with plenty of toffee, spice and gentle sherry-led nuttiness.

About the brand

John Jameson founded his Bow Street distillery in Dublin in 1780, and the name has been one of the great Irish whiskey brands ever since. Today Jameson is made in County Cork by Irish Distillers, part of Pernod Ricard, and the 18 Year Old is drawn from some of the oldest and most prized stocks in the company’s warehouses.

How it’s made

The whiskey is a blend of three signature distillates, including pot still whiskey and single grain, triple distilled and matured in American and European oak, with sherry and bourbon casks both in the mix. After almost two decades it is married for at least six months in first-fill American oak bourbon barrels, which adds vanilla and polish to the finished blend.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Aromatic oils, a touch of wood, warming spice and toffee.
• Palate: Smooth and mellow, with toffee and fudge, gentle spice, hints of leather and polished wood, vanilla and a soft sherried nuttiness.
• Finish: Long and lingering, carrying wood, spice and toffee through to the end.

How to enjoy it

Jameson 18 Year Old is a whiskey for slow sipping, best enjoyed neat or with a small splash of water to open up the spice and oak. It pairs well with aged cheeses, dark chocolate or pecan tart.
