Kilkerran Heavily Peated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl
Kilkerran Heavily Peated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl
Kilkerran Heavily Peated is a cask-strength Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky from Glengyle distillery, released in small numbered batches. This bottling, Batch 14, comes in at 58.3% ABV and pairs big coastal peat smoke with a sweet, buttery and oily character that rewards slow sipping and a splash of water.
About the distillery
The original Glengyle distillery was founded in Campbeltown in 1872 by William Mitchell and had fallen silent by 1925. Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd, the family company behind neighbouring Springbank, rebuilt the site and distilling began again in 2004. Its single malt is bottled as Kilkerran, from the Gaelic name for the settlement where Campbeltown now stands.
How it’s made
Made from heavily peated malt, Batch 14 was matured in a mix of around 90% bourbon casks and 10% sherry casks. It is bottled at natural cask strength, with natural colour and without chill-filtration, keeping its full, oily texture.
Tasting notes
- Nose: Honeycomb, toasted wholemeal bread, chargrilled seafood and smoky bacon.
- Palate: Lemon shortbread, melon and ham, with smoky depth.
- Finish: Balanced peat smoke with a sweet, buttery mouthfeel.
How to enjoy it
Sip Kilkerran Heavily Peated neat to appreciate the weight of the peat, or add a splash of water to soften the 58.3% strength and bring out the sweeter, fruitier side. A natural partner for smoked salmon or a strong cheese.
