King of Soho London Dry Gin, 70cl
King of Soho London Dry Gin, 70cl
King of Soho London Dry Gin is a 42% ABV London Dry gin from West End Drinks, made with at least twelve botanicals including coriander, grapefruit peel, angelica root and cassia. The name nods to Paul Raymond, long known as the original King of Soho. The style is full-flavoured and citrus-led, with a little spice, which suits a gin and tonic or a Martini.
About the brand
King of Soho is the spirits brand of West End Drinks, a premium drinks company based in central London and co-founded by Howard Raymond and Alex Robson. The brand launched in October 2013 with this London Dry Gin. Howard Raymond is the son of Paul Raymond, the original King of Soho, who ran a number of entertainment venues in the area, among them the Raymond Revue Bar.
How it’s made
The recipe uses no fewer than twelve botanicals, including coriander, grapefruit peel, angelica root and cassia, built around juniper in the London Dry style. Grapefruit peel gives the gin a distinctive sweetness, while the other botanicals add herbal depth and gentle spice. It is bottled at 42% ABV.
Tasting notes
- Nose: Juniper and pine, with herbal coriander.
- Palate: Bright citrus, with a sweetness from grapefruit peel and subtle spice underneath.
- Finish: Liquorice lingers, with a hint of spice.
How to enjoy it
Serve King of Soho London Dry Gin over plenty of ice with a good tonic and a slice of grapefruit, which echoes the botanicals in the bottle. For a classic Martini, stir 50ml of gin with 10ml of dry vermouth over ice and finish with an olive or a lemon twist. A large tumbler or copa glass works well.
