Kinrara Distillery Artists’ Caper Gin, 70cl

Kinrara Artist Edition Caper Gin is a juniper-led Scottish gin from Kinrara Distillery in the Cairngorms, released as part of its Artists’ Edition series. The bottle carries a capercaillie illustration by Scottish artist Kat Baxter, and the gin itself pairs light citrus and rosemary with pink peppercorn and a warming touch of ginger. Bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle.

About the distillery

Kinrara Distillery sits at Lynwilg Farm Steading near Aviemore, within the Cairngorms National Park, in a converted former milking parlour on the historic Kinrara Estate. Founded in 2018, it produces its gins in small batches and draws some of its botanicals from the surrounding estate. The Artists’ Editions pair each limited bottling with a different Scottish artist.

How it’s made

Kinrara distils in two 100-litre direct-fire pot stills. Caper is built on a juniper base with a profile of citrus, rosemary, pink peppercorn and ginger. A full botanical list is not published, so the flavours described here come from the distillery’s own aroma and taste notes.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Light citrus with a hint of rosemary.
• Palate: Juniper-led, with a touch of pink peppercorn and warm ginger.
• Finish: Smooth and well balanced, with citrus and peppercorn giving way to gingery warmth.

How to enjoy it

Serve Kinrara Caper with a quality tonic, or a Mediterranean-style tonic, over plenty of ice. A sprig of rosemary or a twist of grapefruit peel brings out the herbal and citrus notes. It also holds up in a Gimlet or a Gin & Tonic variation with a pinch of cracked pink pepper.
