Lillet Rosé French Aperitif Wine, 75cl
Lillet Rosé French Aperitif Wine, 75cl
Lillet Rosé French Aperitif Wine is a pink, fruit-led aperitif from the Bordeaux region of France. Bottled at 17% ABV in a 75cl size, it blends wine with orange liqueurs and a touch of quinine, in the tradition of the original Lillet. Fresh berries, summer fruit, orange and grapefruit give it an easy, refreshing style that suits a long spritz as well as a chilled glass on its own.
About the brand
Lillet is made in Podensac in the Gironde, south of Bordeaux. The brothers Paul and Raymond Lillet founded La Maison Lillet in 1872, and the company created Kina Lillet in 1887. The rosé version, built on a rosé wine base, was introduced in 2011 under cellarmaster Jean Bernard Blancheton, adding a pink style to the range.
How it’s made
Lillet is traditionally about 85 per cent Bordeaux wine and 15 per cent macerated liqueurs, mostly citrus. The rosé blends wine with orange liqueurs from Spain, Haiti and France, plus a little quinine in the nineteenth-century manner. Red fruit liqueurs and a splash of Lillet Rouge give it its pink colour.
Tasting notes
- Nose: White flowers and fresh berries.
- Palate: Summer fruit with orange and grapefruit.
- Finish: Smooth and fruity, in line with the house’s own description.
How to enjoy it
Serve Lillet Rosé well chilled, either neat or over ice with a twist of orange or grapefruit. The house’s own Lillet Spritz Rosé combines 50ml with 100ml of tonic and a slice of grapefruit, and soda works too. It can also stand in for vermouth in cocktails.
