Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 Year Old is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 46% ABV. Made at the Loch Lomond Distillery in Alexandria, it is aged in three types of American oak casks for a sweeter, mellower style. It is non-chill filtered, and the blend was put together by Master Blender Michael Henry.
About the distillery
Loch Lomond Distillery stands on the Lomond Estate at Alexandria, near the loch. The present business was established in 1964, with production starting the following year. It is known for its unusual stills, including pot stills with cylindrical necks fitted with distillation trays, which give the distillers extra control over the character of the spirit.
How it’s made
The spirit for Inchmurrin comes from the distillery’s straight neck stills. It is aged in three types of American oak casks, chosen to bring out a sweeter, mellower flavour, and then blended by Master Blender Michael Henry. The whisky is bottled without chill filtration at 46% ABV.
Tasting notes
Nose: Fruity, with pear drops, toffee sweetness and light notes of freshly cut hay.
Palate: Seville orange citrus builds and then softens into peach and apricot, followed by creamy fudge and vanilla.
Finish: Medium in length, finishing with a peppery note.
How to enjoy it
Sip Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 Year Old neat to follow the shift from citrus to stone fruit and fudge. A little water can soften the spice and open up the fruit. It also suits a slow dram after a meal, served at room temperature.
