Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl
Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl
Harvest Edition Second Crop Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop is a Lowland single malt Scotch whisky that celebrates the annual barley harvest on Lochlea Farm in Ayrshire. A fruity, creamy malt with a bright red-fruit character, this second release uses a higher proportion of Port casks than the first, adding depth to the fruit.
About the distillery
Lochlea is a farm distillery in Ayrshire, in the Scottish Lowlands. The barley is grown on Lochlea Farm itself, and the distillery marks the farming calendar with seasonal releases: Sowing, Ploughing, Harvest and Fallow. The Harvest Edition looks to the end of summer, when the crop is brought in.
How it’s made
The whisky was matured in a combination of Ruby and Tawny Port casks, STR barriques and first-fill bourbon barrels, with Port casks taking a larger share than in the first Harvest release. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added colour.
Tasting notes
- Nose: Ripe red grapes, thick-cut marmalade and dates.
- Palate: Pink peppercorns and dried fruit.
- Finish: A lingering creaminess.
How to enjoy it
Sip it neat from a tulip glass, adding a few drops of water to open up the fruit. It works well in a Whisky Sour, and its red-fruit sweetness pairs nicely with dark chocolate, a ripe cheddar or a fruit cake.
