Louis Roederer Collection 244 is a non-vintage Brut Champagne that succeeds the house’s Brut Premier, built on the 2019 harvest and blended with reserve wines to give a rich yet fresh style. Louis Roederer Collection 244 Brut Champagne combines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, with ripe orchard fruit, citrus and a chalky backbone, making it a versatile choice for aperitifs and celebrations.

About the producer

Louis Roederer was founded in Reims in 1776 and has remained in the same family since 1819, making it one of the last major independent, family-run Champagne houses. The estate owns extensive vineyards, many in Grand Cru villages, and was an early adopter of organic and biodynamic farming. The Collection series is named by blend number rather than vintage.

How it’s made

The blend is 41% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir and 26% Meunier. Around 54% comes from the 2019 harvest, with 36% from the perpetual reserve begun in 2012 and 10% from oak-aged reserve wines from 2012 to 2018. The dosage is 7 g/l, which keeps the wine in a dry Brut style.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Ripe wild peaches and William pears, lifted by lemon and blood orange.
• Palate: Rich and robust in texture, fresh and juicy, with concentrated ripe fruit and a chalky, mineral backbone.
• Finish: Long and salivating, with a slightly roasted, smoky note.

How to enjoy it

Serve well chilled, at around 8 to 10°C, in a tulip-shaped glass to show off the aromas. It works as an aperitif and pairs well with oysters, shellfish, smoked salmon, roast chicken and soft cheeses. It also makes a fine base for a classic Champagne cocktail.
