Lundin Gorse Gin, 70cl

Lundin Gorse Gin is a small batch Scottish gin from Fife, made in a London Dry style around juniper and foraged Fife gorse. The result is a juniper-led gin with a floral, fruity lift, and a gentle warmth from spice. It is the signature spirit of a distillery that draws its inspiration from the Kingdom of Fife and its coastline.

About the distillery

Lundin Distilling makes what it calls beautiful Scottish craft spirits, inspired by the Kingdom of Fife, from its rugged coast to the shores of Largo Bay. The label of this gin describes it as a small batch coastal gin, distilled and bottled in Fife, Scotland, and the gorse that gives it its name grows locally.

How it’s made

The recipe uses 18 botanicals, including Italian and Macedonian juniper, elderflower, chamomile, caraway, grapefruit, bitter orange, cinnamon and the foraged gorse. The distillery says it distils in a copper still that originated in Alabama, which it believes helps to soften the spirit.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Oily juniper leads, with redcurrant and tangy orange and a floral elegance behind them.
• Palate: Juniper stays in front, with a touch of white pepper and the warmth of cassia building through the mid-palate.
• Finish: Soft and lingering, finishing on heather.

How to enjoy it

Lundin Gorse Gin has enough character to sip neat or over ice, and a little water will open up the floral side. It is also a natural partner for a good tonic water with a slice of orange or grapefruit, which echoes the citrus in the botanical bill. It works equally well in a classic Gin Martini or a Negroni. Serve in a large balloon glass with plenty of ice.
