Deep in Germany's Black Forest, a small distillery gave rise to one of the world's most celebrated contemporary gins. Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin takes its name from both its 47% ABV and the remarkable 47 botanicals distilled into every batch, making it one of the most intensely layered gins on the market.
On the nose, bright juniper and zesty citrus open the way for delicate florals and warm spice. The palate is dense and complex, balancing tart lingonberry and elderberry against peppery ginger, cooling mint and a whisper of jasmine, before a long, dry, herbaceous finish. Serve simply over ice with a good quality tonic and a twist of grapefruit peel to let the complexity shine, or use it as the backbone of an elevated Martini.
The gin is distilled at the Black Forest Distillers site in Germany, a project inspired by the story of a British serviceman who settled in the region after the Second World War and began distilling gin using local hedgerow botanicals. Spring water drawn from the Black Forest is used at every stage, giving the finished spirit its distinctive local character.
