Oyster Bay Chardonnay, Marlborough, New Zealand, 75cl
Oyster Bay Chardonnay, Marlborough, New Zealand, 75cl
Oyster Bay Chardonnay is a cool-climate New Zealand white from Marlborough, made by the Delegat family. Elegant and fruit-forward, it shows fragrant white peach and vibrant citrus with lingering lime zest and a creamy texture – a fresh, modern style of Marlborough Chardonnay that is easy to enjoy on its own or with food, and is bottled under screwcap.
About the producer
The Delegat story began in 1947, when Croatian immigrants Nikola and Vidosava Delegat planted vines on a small block in Henderson. Their children Jim and Rosemari built the business into one of New Zealand’s most successful wine companies and created the Oyster Bay brand to take New Zealand wine to the world. The first Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, from 1990, won a gold medal and the Marquis de Goulaine Trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.
How it’s made
The grapes are destemmed and lightly pressed, and the free-run juice is cold settled before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with a pure yeast culture. Half of the ferment is kept at a cool 14–16°C for several weeks. No malolactic fermentation takes place, which keeps the wine fresh, and it is blended and filtered before bottling.
