Pickering's Gin is distilled in the heart of Edinburgh at Summerhall, using a recipe with a genuinely unusual history: it was reputedly created in Bombay in 1947 and kept as a family secret for over sixty years before founders Matthew Gammell and Marcus Pickering brought it back to life.
The nose offers up-front juniper with subtle spice and fresh citrus. On the palate, juniper stays at the fore, joined by lively lemon and lime, gentle nutty notes and a touch of sweet anise, with cardamom, coriander and clove adding warmth. The finish is crisp, full-flavoured and herbal. Serve with a classic Indian or premium tonic, a wedge of lime and plenty of ice.
Summerhall Distillery was the first dedicated gin distillery to open in Edinburgh in over 150 years, hand-built by its founders inside the former animal kennels of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. Pickering's has since grown into one of Scotland's best-known craft gin brands, still distilled in small batches on-site.
