Planteray Original Dark Rum - the brand formerly known as Plantation, which rebranded globally in 2024 - is a blend of two classic Caribbean rum styles: lighter column- and pot-still rum from Barbados combined with funkier, more robust pot-still rum from Jamaica. The two are brought together and, in keeping with the brand's signature approach, given further ageing to add depth and complexity, resulting in an accessible dark rum built using genuinely traditional methods.
On the nose, elegant vanilla and gentle oak from the Barbadian component sit alongside the riper, fruitier funk of the Jamaican rum, giving real complexity for the price point. The palate is rich, smooth and full-bodied, with toffee, dried fruit and warm spice carrying through from nose to a satisfying, lingering finish that never feels thin or one-dimensional. It's a rum equally suited to sipping neat or forming the backbone of a Dark 'n' Stormy or Rum Old Fashioned.
Founded by Maison Ferrand's Alexandre Gabriel, the brand built its reputation on sourcing rum from across the Caribbean and finishing it in Cognac country in France, blending expertise from both worlds. In 2024 the company retired the ‘Plantation’ name - with its uncomfortable colonial connotations - in favour of ‘Planteray’, a change that speaks to the brand's roots in sugar cane and sunshine while keeping the same award-winning liquid inside the bottle.
