Quinta do Vallado 20 Year Old Tawny Port, Douro, Portugal, 50cl

Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest and most celebrated estates in Portugal's Douro Valley, producing wine since 1716. This 20 Year Old Tawny Port is a blend of old-vine Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional, averaging two decades of age and matured slowly in old 600-litre oak casks and vintage oak vats under winemakers Francisco Ferreira and Francisco Olazabal.

The nose is rich and complex, combining dried fruit and cigar-box notes, while the palate is round, unctuous and delightfully fresh, with a long, liquorice-tinged finish. Widely acclaimed, it has scored 95 points from Wine Spectator, 93 from James Suckling and 92 from both Robert Parker and Decanter.

Best enjoyed slightly chilled as a digestif, or paired with blue cheese, dark chocolate or dried fruit and nuts.
