Rock Rose Original Edition Scottish Gin, 70cl

Rock Rose Original Edition Gin is the signature Scottish gin from Dunnet Bay Distillers in Caithness, in the far north of Scotland. A bright, berry-led gin built around native botanicals, it pairs the sharp fruitiness of sea buckthorn with the delicate floral note of rhodiola rosea, set on a firm backbone of juniper.

About the distillery

Dunnet Bay Distillers is a family-run distillery at Dunnet in Caithness, founded by Martin and Claire Murray. They worked through 55 experimental recipes before settling on the final Rock Rose blend, and the first batch was distilled on 17 August 2014.

How it’s made

Sea buckthorn berries bring a fruity, crisp character, while rhodiola rosea root adds a delicate floral note. Juniper comes from two sources: Bulgarian juniper for lemon sherbet notes and Italian juniper for warmth and depth. The juniper is vapour infused to keep its flavour fresh and bright.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Rose and cardamom with a touch of citrus.
• Palate: Fruity berries and floral notes, with juniper coming forward.
• Finish: The sharpness of sea buckthorn around a juniper core, with smooth notes of lemon sherbet.

How to enjoy it

Try Martin’s serve: 50ml of Rock Rose Original Edition with 100ml of premium tonic and a toasted sprig of rosemary. Or try Claire’s serve, a lighter 25ml measure with around 75ml of tonic and a curl of orange peel. A sprig of mint also works well.
