Simpsons Wine Estate was founded in 2012 by Charles and Ruth Simpson in Barham, on the North Downs of Kent. Railway Hill takes its name from a disused Victorian railway line that once ran through the vineyard, and the wine is one of the estate's flagship still releases, having won Best Still Rose at the WineGB Awards.
Made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on chalk soils reminiscent of Champagne, the grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed, with malolactic fermentation and extended lees ageing used to build texture and complexity.
The wine shows an attractive, delicate pink-blush colour, with bright aromas of watermelon, crushed strawberry and lychee lifted by hints of lemon zest. The palate continues with strawberry, peach and crisp green apple, balanced by mouth-watering acidity through to a crisp, refreshing finish.
Pair with fresh seafood, English charcuterie or a summer salad, or enjoy on its own as a refined English aperitif.
