Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl

Smokehead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the bold, unapologetically peated single malt from Ian Macleod Distillers, the independent family-owned Scottish spirits company behind Glengoyne, Tamdhu and Edinburgh Gin. Launched in 2006, Smokehead was created to shake up whisky's stuffy image with an in-your-face gold skull motif — Ian Macleod have never disclosed which Islay distillery supplies the liquid, only that "we know, but we're not telling."

Matured in ex-bourbon casks, Smokehead delivers thick wood smoke and lapsang souchong tea on the nose, with cracked black pepper, sherry sweetness and salty vanilla fudge on the palate, building to a long, smoky, peppery finish. Since 2009 the brand has sponsored the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, cementing its rock 'n' roll reputation.

Serve neat or with a few drops of water to open up the smoke, or over ice for a bold, smouldering dram.
