Springbank distillery has stood in Campbeltown since 1828 and remains under the ownership of the founding Mitchell family via J & A Mitchell & Co, making it one of the very few Scottish distilleries still independently family-run. Uniquely, Springbank carries out every stage of production on site, including its own floor malting, distillation, maturation and bottling.
The spirit for this expression is distilled to a partially triple-distilled recipe (around two and a half times through the stills) and matured for a minimum of ten years in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, then bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration or added colouring.
The nose offers plenty of oak, exotic spice, guava, heather honey and soft smoke. The palate is full, sweet and creamy, with hints of smoke, marzipan and cigar box. The finish is smoky, trailing off into sweet cider and toasty barley.
Widely regarded by whisky enthusiasts as one of the most characterful and sought-after Campbeltown malts, Springbank 10 Year Old balances restrained peat smoke with maritime and fruity complexity.
