Talisker is the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, founded in 1830 on the shores of Loch Harport in the island's rugged, windswept west coast. As one of Diageo's original Classic Malts, it has built a reputation as the definitive maritime whisky, shaped by the wild Atlantic weather that surrounds the distillery.
The 10 Year Old is matured for a minimum of ten years in American oak casks, a maturation that lets the spirit's smoky, coastal character take centre stage while adding gentle sweetness and roundness.
The nose delivers powerful peat smoke alongside sea-water salinity, the brine of fresh oysters and a lift of citrus sweetness. On the palate it is rich with dried-fruit sweetness, rolling smoke and strong malted barley, warming and intense, with a distinctive burst of pepper at the back of the mouth.
The finish is huge, long and warming, carrying that trademark peppery heat through to an appetising, lingering sweetness. A bold, characterful dram for anyone who enjoys a smoky, maritime style of Scotch.
