Tayport Distillery Malt Barley Vodka, 50cl

Tayport Distillery Malt Barley Vodka is a Scottish vodka made entirely from malted barley, the same grain that underpins Scotch whisky. Instead of the neutral profile of many vodkas, it keeps a little cereal character and a silky, creamy texture, finishing with a hint of cocoa. Bottled at 40% ABV in a 50cl bottle, it is a vodka that rewards sipping as well as mixing.

About the distillery

Tayport Distillery is a family-run distillery in Tayport, Fife, founded by Kecia McDougall. It works in small batches from grain to glass, producing its own base spirit from locally sourced grain, and adds no sugar to its spirits. The distillery sits on the edge of the Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve and draws on the fruit and grain of the Fife countryside.

How it’s made

The vodka is made from 100% Scottish malted barley and blended with spring water from the Lomond Hills. It is distilled, filtered and bottled in Fife. It has won an IWSC Gold Outstanding medal (98 points, 2020).

Tasting notes

• Nose: Delicate cereal notes with a creamy softness.
• Palate: A silky, smooth texture with gentle malted barley character.
• Finish: A hint of cocoa on the finish, in line with the “hints of cacao” named on the label.

How to enjoy it

The distillery recommends it for a classic Martini or for sipping neat, and it is best served very cold. It also works in a vodka and soda with a slice of lemon, where the soft malt character is easy to appreciate.
