The Lakes Gin, 70cl

The Lakes Gin, 70cl, is an English gin from The Lakes Distillery, set on the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake District National Park. About the distillery

The Lakes Distillery sits in the Lake District National Park, on the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake, in a renovated Victorian farmstead. It opened in December 2014 after three years of development. The distillery draws on water from its Lake District home, and The Lakes Gin is one of its core spirits, made to show off the character of the region.

How it’s made

The botanicals are gently infused in British wheat spirit and then distilled in a traditional copper pot still. The spirit is blended with water drawn from the Lake District, which gives the finished gin its clean, lifted character at a bottling strength of 46% ABV.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Orange zest and juniper, with fragrant, tea-like notes alongside.
• Palate: Refreshing citrus and juniper, with a hint of black pepper.
• Finish: Long, zesty and peppery.

How to enjoy it

The Lakes Gin works well as a gin and tonic. The distillery recommends plenty of ice, a good tonic and a slice of pink grapefruit, while a ribbon of orange peel also works well with the citrus. It also holds up in classic gin cocktails where you want the juniper and pepper to come through.
