Watson's Demerara Rum brings the thick, syrupy character of Guyana's celebrated Demerara rum tradition to an approachable, well-priced blend. The constituent rums are matured in Guyana before being shipped to Scotland, where independent bottler Ian Macleod Distillers blends and bottles them under the Watson's name.
Expect a nose with notes of spice and molasses, with a touch of that acetone character typical of traditional Demerara stills. The palate is thick and syrupy, carrying more molasses and spice with a buttery mouthfeel, and the finish is smooth and warming for its price point. It stands up well to mixers — try it with cola or ginger beer — and is equally at home in a rum punch or stirred through a Christmas cake or eggnog.
Demerara rum takes its name and character from the historic wooden and metal pot stills of Guyana's Diamond Distillery, including the famous Port Mourant and Enmore stills. Watson's sources its rum from this tradition, and it is bottled by Ian Macleod Distillers, a family-run independent Scottish bottler also known for its whisky and gin ranges.
