About the distillery

Wolfburn takes its name from the Wolf Burn, the stream that supplies its water. An earlier distillery of the same name was founded near Thurso in 1821 and fell silent around the 1860s. The current distillery opened in 2013 in Henderson Park, Thurso, in Caithness, and is described as the most northerly whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland. It works with one wash still and one spirit still.

How it’s made

Langskip is matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks, which give the whisky its sweetness and depth. It is bottled at 58% ABV without chill filtration and without added colouring, so the character of the casks reaches the glass as the distillery intended.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Fruit blossom, dried apple and light oak, with background hints of raisin, date and fruit cake.
• Palate: Rich and sweet, with maple syrup, dark chocolate, almond and raisin.
• Finish: Long and warming, with lingering sweet fruit, early vanilla and a closing trace of caramel.
