Wolfcraig Classic Dry Gin, 70cl

Wolfcraig Classic Dry Gin is the first gin from Wolfcraig Distillers: a juniper-led Scottish gin in the London dry style, created by two of the best-known names in Scotch whisky, master blenders Richard Paterson and Ian MacMillan. Made with 17 botanicals and pot still distilled in copper, it offers fresh juniper, bright citrus and a spicy depth, bottled at a generous 44.5% ABV.

About the brand

Wolfcraig Distillers was launched in 2020 by former Whyte & Mackay chief executive Michael Lunn, with Richard Paterson and Jamie Lunn. The company takes its name from a Scottish folk tale of a wolf cub that roused Scottish soldiers against a Nordic invader. Its first release was a 30-year-old blended whisky, followed by this gin in 2023.

How it’s made

Paterson and MacMillan spent several years developing the recipe. Rather than adding flavourings afterwards, the 17 botanicals are combined and distilled together in a copper pot still. They include juniper, orange peel, lemon and cassia, alongside raspberry, wild thyme and other botanicals drawn from the Scottish landscape around Stirling.

Tasting notes

• Nose: Piney juniper and citrus, with woody, leafy notes.
• Palate: Classic juniper and fruity citrus, moving into earthy, soft spice.
• Finish: Peppery, then dry and herbaceous, with citrus balance and a clean herbal close.

How to enjoy it

Wolfcraig Classic Dry Gin makes an excellent gin and tonic, garnished with a twist of lemon or orange peel. Its juniper backbone and higher strength also suit classic short cocktails such as a dry Martini or a Negroni, and it is a natural gift for gin lovers who also enjoy their Scotch.
